Tableau is a short dance film, exploring the bounds of movement in a surreal still life of color. It's a study of play, curious and delightful; a wandering passage of time in a contained space: my kitchen table.
While swimming in the mundanity of pandemic life at home with my family with no end in sight, I found myself keeping track of time with my own monthly cycle. Drawing inspiration from still life portraits, I introduced a cast of fruits and eggs to symbolize this cyclical nature of shelter-in-place. My body continued to tick away the days, even when it seemed that time ceased to exist.
The film was created during the COVID-19 pandemic through the loveDANCEmore commissioning program "Only The Lonely," with guidelines that artists should work in the safest possible way per health guidelines. It was filmed at home, and presented in a digital concert in April, 2021. The film was created in a close, but virtual, collaboration between artists.
