ROXANNE GRAY
Roxanne Gray is a Tejana Salt Lake City-based independent choreographer, performer, teaching artist, and curator. She recently received her MFA in Modern Dance from the University of Utah where her research centered around the Chicanx experience and borderland identities. Her thesis work, Nepantla, was chosen to represent the U of U at the American College Dance Association National Festival in Washington, DC, 2025.
Gray's creative work has been presented at The University of Utah, Brigham Young University, and Westminster University (UT); LEVYdance, Shawl-Anderson Dance Center, Mission Dance Theater, Studio Azul, and SAFEhouse for the Performing Arts (San Francisco, Bay Area); as well as Covey Center for the Arts, 12 Minutes Max, loveDANCEmore's Movement Lab, Clubhouse, Twig Media Lab, 801 Salon, Material Gallery, and Finch Lane Gallery (Salt Lake City, UT). She has received commissions from Utah Metropolitan Ballet, Wasatch Contemporary Dance Company, and The University of Utah. Her films have been screened at the Utah Dance Film Festival, Cinnevox Dance Film Festival, Noori Screendance Festival, and American Dance Festival's Movies by Movers. Her scholarship has been presented at the Dance Studies Association Conference in Washington, DC (2025), and Utah Dance Education Organization Conferences (2023, 2025); as well as published in The Journal of Folklore and Education (2024).
She is the Founder, Director, and Curator of 801 Salon, a multidisciplinary arts and performance series in Salt Lake City. She is also the Founder and Director of PlayGround Dance Project, a choreographic flash incubator based in Salt Lake City, for which she received the Tier 1 Artist Career Empowerment Grant from the Salt Lake City Arts Council and the National Endowment for the Arts in 2023.
