Un Poquito is a documentary short that follows my mother as she prepares for a Folklórico dance performance in San Antonio, TX on Día de los Muertos. The film explores traditions and lineage in the borderlands of identity. A portrait of a mother and daughter, the film also tackles experiences of othering, assimilation, racism, and belonging. "Un poquito" refers to my response when others ask, "¿hablas español?" I may not know the language, but my mother taught me to commune with my culture through movement. Nosotras balaimos.
This is an ongoing project, initially started in a documentary film course during my graduate studies at the University of Utah.
